The recent uprising in Gaza against Hamas appears, at best, questionable and, at worst, a calculated maneuver. These same individuals who now claim to reject Hamas were seen celebrating the brutal October 7th attack on innocent Israeli civilians. Footage and reports of the humiliation of hostages—even dead children—reveal a disturbing cultural and ideological alignment with terror, not an opposition to it.
Having grown up in Egypt during a time when Gaza was part of Egyptian territory and having studied Islamic texts deeply at Cairo University’s Law School, I can say confidently that this conflict is fundamentally religious, not political. The narrative of a secular “Palestinian cause” is a convenient façade, masking theological motivations rooted in centuries-old doctrines.
The current demonstrations in Gaza seem more like theater than genuine protest. Whether orchestrated by Hamas as a tactic to garner global sympathy or staged to mask a strategic withdrawal, the intent appears insincere. The use of taqiyya and kitmān—doctrinal permissions in Islam to deceive for strategic gain—should not be underestimated. Today, we see not an organic uprising but a scripted performance following religious precedent.
The global community should view these events with critical eyes, not naive hearts. Sympathy should never be confused with complicity in deception.
