Dr. Sabri Bebawi, born in 1956 in the town of Fayoum, Egypt, is the middle child among five siblings.
He began his academic journey at Cairo University, where he studied law. However, his steadfast refusal to
bear arms or comply with orders to harm others, particularly Jews, led him to flee Egypt. He sought refuge in
the United Kingdom, where he was invited to study at Oxford University for a semester. Following his time in
Oxford, he chose not to return to Egypt and embarked on a journey across Europe, living and working in
England, Italy, France, and Cyprus before eventually settling in the United States.
In the U.S., Dr. Bebawi began his career as an instructor of English as a Second Language. His passion for
education and lifelong learning propelled him to further his studies, eventually becoming a professor
specializing in English, journalism, teacher training, and educational technology. He pursued advanced
studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and earned a PhD in Education and Distance
Learning from Capella University, while also taking courses at UCLA.
Although English is his third language, Dr. Bebawi has authored numerous works on a variety of
subjects. Divine Comedy is his third novel, reflecting his dedication to the art of writing despite the
challenges of crafting narratives in a foreign language.
Dr. Bebawi is currently a fellow at the Salzburg Institute on Globalization in Austria, where he lectures on
the adverse impacts of globalization on impoverished and marginalized nations.
